Shortly after a 38-year old man staged an attack on the Dutch Royal Family on a national holiday called Queen’s Day, our own Joshua Livestro wrote a post about the matter, wondering whether it was an accident or whether the driver meant to kill innocent bystanders and, perhaps, even the royal family itself.
Days later, we know what happened: police say that the 38-year old driver, Karst Tates, told them he tried to hit the bus in which Queen Beatrix, Crown Prince Willem Alexander and his wife Maxima and the other members of the family were traveling in. It was a failed assassination attempt, in other words.
Luckily Tates did not succeed in ramming the royal bus. He missed it by as much as 15 meters. However, he did hit dozens of bystanders – citizens who were there to celebrate Queen’s Day and to welcome the queen into the city of Apeldoorn.
Six of the bystanders died.| MORE
