In his latest column for the National Post, David Frum describes Canadian PM Harper as the only conservative on the world stage at a time of crisis. Although I certainly enjoy Harper’s leadership as any other conservative in this regard, and at this decisive point in time, proving that conservative governance is also able to deal with economic misery, it seems that Frum forgets that Silvio Berlusconi of Italy is also a conservative, as is Angela Merkel of Germany (a conservative Christian Democrat – the CD roughly consists out of Christian Democrats most of whom are quite conservative and true conservatives).
“Prime Minister Harper will soon confront some of the most difficult challenges faced by any Canadian leader since 1945: a global economic crisis, a grinding war on the other side of the planet and an aging population that will require more and more public support,” Frum writes. (more…)
