Honest to God, I don’t understand what Rick Santorum is thinking. I understand that he has an ego the size of the Atlantic Ocean, but really, does he truly believe he can still win? He’ll make a miracle for that to happen.

And even if there’s a miracle – meaning that Romney won’t get to 1,144 delegates – Santorum will likely not come out the winner of a brokered convention. Both he and Romney, some will argue, will have had their short. If Romney isn’t allowed to represent the GOP, the same goes for Santorum.

Heck, even more so, since he won’t even come close to the total delegate amount Romney is set to collect.

If Santorum truly wants to act in the best interest of his party, he’ll get out of the race ASAP. If he doesn’t, it’s all the proof we need to conclude that he’s in it for himself only.MORE

Now that the Puerto Rico primaries have given Romney all 23 of their delegates (not a surprising conclusion), we’ve more or less come upon the half way point of the primary cycle. At 516 delegates, Mitt Romney’s lead seems to be insurmountable, but you can bet that the other candidates are going to try their hardest to make sure he doesn’t get to 1,147 delegates by convention time.MORE

Bad news for Newt Gingrich: he isn’t going to win the Republican nomination. He’s still in the race and, yes, he’ll be able to continue for a while longer, but he’s as good as finished nonetheless.

You see, February will without a doubt be Romney’s month. It’s likely that he will win every caucus / primary in it.MORE

There is a growing perception that this primary season is all but decided; that Mitt Romney is already the presumptive nominee. Indeed, our own Michael van der Galien is of this opinion. However, I must disagree with Michael. While things certainly look that way right now, there is a lot of time between now and August, when the convention will be held, and many primaries and caucuses left to go through.MORE

I do not, for one second, believe that Rick Santorum can defeat Mitt Romney (and, let’s be honest, nobody does except, apparently, for his own staff).

As such, Romney’s victory in Iowa is very important indeed. It means that he’s now the true frontrunner, the guy to beat.

But who can defeat him?

Rick Perry will probably get out of the race after his abysmal showing yesterday.MORE

Donald Trump believes that he’s fit to be president. Why, you ask? Because he knows so much about foreign policy or economics? Or perhaps because he has a lot of experience working in the public sector? No, because he’s rich.

Following tonight humiliating defeat of Mitt Romney, I think we’ve seen once and for all why we can’t just declare a winner now and get it over with (sorry, Michael). It’s not over, not by a long shot.  There are still many states to go, and from what I can tell, it will take each and every one of them before a nominee is decided.MORE

Mitt Romney’s opponents in the Republican field have taken to the tactics of the Democrats. They’ve started attacking his image as a businessman, calling him a “predatory capitalist,” and issue damning proclamations about his time at Bain Capital, a private equity firm he co-founded.MORE

Former Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney, will officially announce his candidacy next week Thursday. He will do so in New Hampshire.

As the Washington Post explains, that’s quite telling:

Three years ago, Romney tried to run the table of early-voting states — spending millions of dollars in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina only to lose all three and, with them, the nomination.MORE

Watch Governor Mitt Romney’s speech at the Values Voters Summit last week. It was a good, perhaps even a very good speech in which he once again proved to be one of the best communicators in the Republican Party.
