Happy Independence Day to all of our American readers! 235 years ago today 13 colonies announced their intention to separate from Great Britain, and fight the injustices committed against them.

When in the course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the Earth, the separate and equal Station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent Respect to the Opinions of Mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the Separation.MORE

For the past five years, Israeli Yuval Roth and his organization “On the Road to Recovery,” have been driving sick Palestinians back and forth across the border to Israeli hospitals so that they can get treatment for their illnesses. The West Bank understandably doesn’t have the greatest health care system.MORE

I’ll come out and say it.  I think the Arab Spring is a very positive development. I’m not talking about specific cases like Egypt or Yemen, but about the idea behind the Arab Spring. It’s an idea that many of us would not find unappealing: that the people of the Arab nations want to make their own way. Make their own future and not have it made for them. Pull themselves up by their bootstraps, you might say.MORE

I used to have a annual series on my old blog called “Independence Week,” where I would post only positive news and other positive content. With all of the negativity in the world, and especially in politics, a little bit of positivity can be a good thing to have once in a while.

I haven’t done it since starting here, but I’d like to bring it back again, and this time include everybody.MORE
