Chris Dodd

Politico reports that Senator Chris Dodd – who has lost a lot of support in his home state Connecticut – is planning a major political recovery plan.

And God knows he needs it. He currently enjoys a disapproval rating of 58%. Although Congress as a whole is quite unpopular, few senators can count on such dismal ratings.

As if the 58%-disapproval rating is not bad enough, a recent Quinnipiac University poll shows Dodd trailing former GOP Rep. Rob Simmons by 16 percentage points. In other words, if elections were held today, the Republican Party would take over Dodd’s senate seat. National Republicans have already announced they will pour more money into the race, and the state’s Republican Party has sent out several emails blasting Dodd.

A victory for Simmons would be quite an accomplishment. Connecticut is a deep-blue state.

Dodd is doing his best to raise funds for what will undoubtedly be the most difficult reelection campaign he has ever faced. He had quite a good first quarter of this year even; he raised $1 million.MORE
