Rick, Go Home!

Honest to God, I don’t understand what Rick Santorum is thinking. I understand that he has an ego the size of the Atlantic Ocean, but really, does he truly believe he can still win? He’ll make a miracle for that to happen.

And even if there’s a miracle – meaning that Romney won’t get to 1,144 delegates – Santorum will likely not come out the winner of a brokered convention.MORE

The time is now.

Listen folks, the infighting has carried on for too long already. If you’ve got a subscription to the Wall Street Journal, you know that Team Obama is coming up with a strategy to use this fall, based on the smears Republicans use against each other. Every Republican candidate has been labeled a flipflopper, an extremist, and a fake.MORE

I’m so terribly sorry to read about the death of Andrew Breitbart, one of my heroes and (Internet) friends.

I met Andrew in Azerbaijan. We were part of a team of western bloggers and columnists, who were invited into the country for a congress about that country and the US – and the relationship between them.

He was a great guy; extremely energetic and very, very funny.MORE

Bad news for Newt Gingrich: he isn’t going to win the Republican nomination. He’s still in the race and, yes, he’ll be able to continue for a while longer, but he’s as good as finished nonetheless.

You see, February will without a doubt be Romney’s month. It’s likely that he will win every caucus / primary in it.MORE

Dan Balz wrote a rather fascinating column for the Washington Post today:

What is fascinating about the Republican race is that, in a matter of days and weeks, it has turned from the question of whether a stop-Romney movement would materialize to the reality that a stop-Gingrich movement now has taken shape.

That’s certainly true.MORE

I do not, for one second, believe that Rick Santorum can defeat Mitt Romney (and, let’s be honest, nobody does except, apparently, for his own staff).

As such, Romney’s victory in Iowa is very important indeed. It means that he’s now the true frontrunner, the guy to beat.

But who can defeat him?

Rick Perry will probably get out of the race after his abysmal showing yesterday.MORE

And to free fellow Muslims from the heavy burden of fatwas.

A group of Dutch Muslim politicians have launched a movement to free Muslims from religious fatwas. It is a great initiative, and it is very meaningful that they launch it one day before the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

If you support the petition, please sign it. You can read it in English and Dutch here.

Muammer Gaddafi once again succeeded in making a complete and utter fool of himself.

The powerless ‘dictator’ of Libya told his people in an audio recording released today to “prepare for a guerilla war” against the “imperial forces” that destroyed his regime. He added that the international forces want to occupy Libya for its resources (read: oil).MORE

Great news from Europe: Greece won’t be able to meet its deficit targets for 2011.

That’s what the country’s parliamentary budget office said today.MORE

Brussels, Brussels, Brussels.

What in the world are you doing nowadays?

It all started so nice, a couple of years after World War II. Everybody ‘understood’ that European states had to learn to work together, to respect each other, and to become interconnected. If we didn’t, a third world war might not be far off.

Making continental free trade a top priority was, indeed, a great idea.MORE

LOL! I'm happy to hear that Mike. But don't buy yourself some study books; just continue reading my tweets and translating them. Before you know, you understand virtually everything ;)

This truly is a great idea, Mike. Terrific.

"Even FDR recognized the need for people…Americans to contribute to their own Retirements.' Of course - the Democrats have become more and more leftist in the days since FDR. Re. Clinton: agreed, wholeheartedly. Also: this…MORE
Adoring Girly Media Props Up Its Big Man on Campus
Yephora: heh. That's certainly true. Wouldn't want to read anything critical, of course.
Ron Paul announces candidacy - and I've got a terrible headache
When it does, send it, i'll put it in the headlines on the front page. And... yup; I've actually got to thank that Paul-fan for leaving that comment. Thanks Joe!
Poll: Americans don't support Ryan-budget

I Really Want Paul Ryan to Run for President
I agree completely with your post, except for one thing: I think he should wait until 2016.
Glenn Beck: A Warrior for Freedom
Certainly a good point, Michael. However, keep in mind that it's not capitalist to force others to spend their money in certain ways. And that's what they're doing: they're blackmailing and blackballing private companies. If…MORE
Protests Continue in Iran
Agreed completely Mike: but if one man can do it, so can others. Let's email about this - we've got to keep track of what's happening.

Europe Is Burning Part 498,101: Greece Can't Meet Its 2011 Targets
I've long thought that, in spite of what a lot of people have said, the world would become more segmented, not more unified. I based this on what we've seen in the past few years, with Montenegro separating from Serbia and…MORE

One of these days I'm going to learn Dutch because of your tweets. I already get the gist of some of it.
Rep. Weiner: Yeah I Sent A Pic of Myself on Twitter
Isn't not being a lying weasel an attribute of "personal integrity?" Do I like that Weiner is being unfaithful to his wife? No. Do I think it necessarily means he can't be a good legislator. Also no (though he policies…MORE
Krauthammer: Paul Ryan Should Run
The problem, of course, is that we really need people like Ryan in the House (and the Senate) right now. A president can only do so much to influence budgetary matters. Congress is where all the legwork is done. A…MORE
What is a journalist if not a person who reports on and analyzes current events?
