Christopher Hitchens revealed yesterday that he has esophageal cancer and is undergoing treatment for it, giving an explanation for a recent spat of canceled book signings. I don’t know anything about this type of cancer, really, but Allahpundit tells us that it’s typically fatal, with a low chance of survival past 5 years. Whether this is the case for Hitchens is not currently known, but I suppose time will tell.
I consider Hitchens to be one of the people who helped me discover where I stand on the theism-atheism debate (by way of how I don’t wish to debate), and despite my differences with him on that, it’s all professional. So I will wish him good luck on his treatment.
