Dems having a hard time recapturing the spirit of 2008
This is what happens when you get your man elected, after which he proceeds to disappoint everyone:
Some Democratic candidates running for local office around the country call the phenomenon the “Obama hangover.” It is proving tougher to recruit volunteers and get people to vote.
“It’s like the morning after the party,” Michael McGann, a Democrat running for clerk of courts in the Philadelphia suburbs, said in an interview. “The party was wonderful and exciting. The day after it’s like, ‘Gee, I don’t want to do that again for a while.’ ”
Combating the malaise, Obama is trying to galvanize voters by reminding them of the “fired up, ready to go” fervor that made last year’s race riveting political theater…
Are voters buying it? Obama’s party has a hard sell.
And logically so. Obama has proved to be a politician like all the others, even though he promised to be “different.” He would “reach across the aisle work on a bipartisan basis.” Well, it shows. Republicans aren’t taken serious and an entire news channel is attacked. If voters thought the George W. Bush administration was polarizing, well, they have now learned that it could have been worse.
Meanwhile, diehard Democrats aren’t motivated either, because they see that Obama can give a great speech or two, but that he isn’t able to get any of his plans through Congress. To say that he hasn’t accomplished a lot, would be the understatement of the year. He hasn’t accomplished anything.
So it can’t be said that Democrats run into problems when they need the base to turn out in large numbers and vote.
Chances are they’ll face the same problems next year, which could very well result in a major comeback for Republicans in Congress. And that would be wonderful; America is in desperate need of common sense conservatism, instead of the highly ideological and counterproductive plans pushed forth by Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.
