Definite proof that Britain’s Gordon Brown is living in Lala-Land:
In a BBC Radio Four interview at the Labour conference in Brighton, the Prime Minister accepted that the Conservatives are the clear favourites to win the general election next year, but insisted he can still win over the “mainstream middle” of Britain.
Admitting the odds are against him and his party, he said: “I accept we are the insurgents, we are not the incumbents.”
When told that winning would be extremely difficult for the Social Democrats of Labor, Brown said: “Everything has been hard. My life has been about fighting against difficulties that sometimes appear insuperable.”
True enough – and most of those difficulties Brown ran into had to do with his own character and leadership style. The prime minister is one of the most difficult men in British politics. There’s no reasoning with him. He’s as Machiavellian as they come.
Not only did Brown said he believes Labor can win next year’s elections, he also lashed out at Tory leader David Cameron accusing him of - oh no, the horror! – being raised in an upper-middle class family.
It’s a deadly attack, I’m sure.
Brown has run out of time. He succeeded Blair when the latter resigned, even though a majority of Brits did not want him to. He became prime minister by circumventing elections rather than by winning them.
Once in power, Brown destroyed the economy, weakened Britain internationally, felt the heat in his own party and expanded Britain’s vast Big Brother-like programs.
In other words, it’s time for Brown to go and be replaced by a moderate conservative who is able and willing to govern responsibly.
