Although they only broke the news this week, Western intelligence agencies did in fact know about Iran’s second nuclear facility for years. The LA Times, Fox News and Newsweek all say they discovered the reactor located near Qom in 2006.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad does not quite understand the outrage he caused. The mouthpiece of the regime wondered aloud why Tehran wasn’t congratulated for its “transparency.” They should be “encouraged for taking this action,” Ahmadinejad said.

Of course Wacko Mahmoud forgot to mention that they only informed the IAEA about this second nuclear facility because they realized the West already knew about it.

But hey, who cares for details anyway?

The good news about this nuclear reactor is that it isn’t in use just yet. They are not enriching uranium at Qom yet. Not as far as we know, that is.

However, since Iran did not inform the IAEA about this facility when they built it it’s pretty safe to conclude that this week’s revelation proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Iran’s nuclear project is anything but peaceful. The intention is to develop nuclear weapons. If the Mad Mullahs wanted to develop nuclear power for peaceful purposes they would have played it straight.

Exit question: What does it tell us about Obama that although he knew that Iran tried to deceive the international community he continues to pretend the regime can be trusted nonetheless? Isn’t this definite proof that Tehran is anything but trustworthy?

  1. Michael Merritt I'm not sure that Obama trusts Iran, but you can't try to convince them to give up the nuclear program by saying, "You lied. I'm just going to ignore you now." That just wouldn't make any progress.
