You wouldn’t know it if you only watched CNN, ABC, MSNBC or any other member of the mainstream media, but the Green Revolution continues unabated in Iran. Michael Ledeen writes for Pajamas Media:

When a tyrannical regime dies, you can see the symptoms in the little things. Late Friday afternoon, after millions (yes, millions–this according to Le Monde, France 2, and L’Express, with the BBC saying that the demonstrations were bigger than those at the time of the Revolution) of Greens mobbed the streets and squares of more than thirty towns and cities to call for the end of the regime, there was a soccer game in Azadi Stadium in Tehran. It holds about a hundred thousand fans, and it was full of men wearing green and carrying green balloons. When state-run tv saw what was happening, the color was drained from the broadcast, and viewers saw the game in black and white. And when the fans began to chant “Death to the Dictator,” “Death to Russia,” and “Death to Putin, Chavez and Nasrallah, enemies of Iran,” the sound was shut off. So the game turned into a silent movie.

But the censors forgot about the radio, and the microphones stayed open, so that millions of listeners could hear the sounds of the revolution. And in Azadi Stadium, as in most parts of the country, the security officers either walked away or joined the party.

Even other Grand Ayatollahs have turned against Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. When he announced, for instance, that Ramadan ended last Sunday, other Ayatollahs like Montazeri and Sistani disagreed and told their followers they would have to fast until Monday.

As Ledeen explains all of this can only happen in Iran if there’s wide consensus that his rule is illegitimate.

We’re seeing the end of the Islamist regime of Iran. It won’t be long before the regime will completely collapse.

That would be a tremendous blow to Islamists everywhere.

Strangely, the American MSM is doing its very best to ignore this Green Revolution. Most Americans probably don’t even know what’s happening in Iran. Why? Because it doesn’t fit into the MSM’s narrative about how Islamists are conquering the Middle East and how the forces of democracy are forced to withdraw.

And we should pay attention. For not only is it wonderful and incredibly important that Khamenei and Ahmadinejad are overthrown, we should also realize that they could prove to be more dangerous than ever before. They realize their game is up. Once they’re overthrown they will undoubtedly have to account for all their crimes against their people. Simply put, they won’t survive a revolution.

They realize this as well, which means they could do crazy things to either save themselves or take their enemies with them in their fall. They’re unpredictable and dangerous. We need to watch them closely and pay attention to every little step they take.

And if present US diplomatic trends continue, we'll be on the wrong side. Again. During the cold war, the west (led by the US) often took the side of dictators and oppressive regimes against the "liberation" movements within those countries. This was, as often as not, driven by the fact that the Soviet Union was supporting the liberation movements in question. This was a most unfortunate dynamic, but at least the denizens of realpolitik could argue that the regimes we supported took our side in the larger cold war picture. And ironically, Iran serves as an object lesson for us in what could happen when we failed to do so. In this case, we don't even have that satisfaction - we are ignoring a potentially friendly independence movement in favor of a crazed millenialist regime that has been actively at war with us for 30 years. And we are refusing our support of the independence movement with no concessions or guarantees in hand; so this cannot even be justified in terms of realpolitik anymore. Sad - and dumb.
