Reuters reports that the Federal Reserve is, once again, confused:

The Federal Reserve is studying significant moves in the U.S. government bond market last week that could have big implications for the central bank’s strategy to combat the country’s recession.

But the Fed is not really sure what is driving the sharp rise in long-dated bond yields, and especially a widening gap between short and long term yields.MORE

Abortion played a less visual role in the 2008 election than in most of the previous presidential elections since 1980. The murder of Dr. Tiller probably places the abortion issue at the center of the national political debate again.

The abortion issue is intensely personal, and intensely divisive. Both those who favor allowing it and those who oppose it are disingenuous about what is involved, and whose rights should be paramount.MORE

This is breaking news: Air France-KLM officials say that one of its Airbus A330-200s disappeared from radar when flying above the Atlantic. The plane had 215 passengers on board.

Air France officials told French radio they have “no hope” for the 215 individuals.

If the plane did indeed go down, and it is pretty likely, it was the first time for an Airbus 330-200 to crash. It reportedly crashed near the Brazilian island of Fernando de Noronha.MORE

Dr. George Tiller, a famous abortion provider in Wichita, Kansas, has been murdered on his way to church today. Anti-abortion groups were quick to condemn the use of violence in the service of their cause, but that hasn’t prevented the liberal blogosphere from once again using such a tragedy as a tool with which to try to tar and feather anyone who disagrees with their purist position.

The abortion issue is a classic case of an issue that is entirely controlled by extremists.MORE
