CNN reports:
Confirmed cases of swine flu jumped by more than 65 percent Saturday with the World Health Organization reporting 615 people in 15 countries infected with the virus commonly known as swine flu.
The organization had reported 367 cases on Friday. The jump in cases was due to ongoing testing of a backlog of specimens in Mexico, the WHO said.
The most cases were in Mexico, where 397 people were infected and 16 deaths were attributed to the virus, according to the WHO.| MORE

Australia announces it will do something Europe should have done years, nay decades ago already: invest in its military.
Australia plans to buy 100 state-of-the-art U.S. jet fighters and double the size of its modest submarine fleet in a bid to keep pace with an Asian military buildup.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, announcing the plan on board the HMAS Stuart in Sydney Harbour on Saturday, said Australia’s military must be prepared for any situation.| MORE

Hot Air notices the publication of a poll showing that 67% of Catholics approve of the job President Obama is currently doing. The conservative blog’s AllahPundit argues that this once again shows that many Catholics do not adhere to the Church’s basic teachings. Catholic readers of HA respond angrily to the poll, arguing that these ‘Catholics’ who approve of Obama are not Catholics at all.

New York Governor David Paterson’s racial discrimination cost his state’s taxpayers $300.000.
Shortly after becoming NY senate minority leaders in 2003, Paterson fired the white senate photographer – action first filed in 2005 by Joseph Maioriello, 56 – because he wanted to hire a black staffer. Instead of accepting this kind of disrimination, Maioriello decided to fight. He filed action in 2005 and sought $1.5 million in damages.| MORE
