In a sharply worded article the AP has finally taken notice of the Obama budget deficit and called it what it is – an economic nightmare.  Moreover, Mr. Obama is identified as being part of the problem rather than the solution.  Good to see a dose of reality in the morning news, even if the news is bad.

“That wasn’t me,” President Barack Obama said on his 100th day in office, disclaiming responsibility for the huge budget deficit waiting for him on Day One. It actually was him — and the other Democrats controlling Congress the previous two years — who shaped a budget so out of balance.

And as a presidential candidate and president-elect, he backed the twilight Bush-era stimulus plan that made the deficit deeper, all before he took over and promoted spending plans that have made it much deeper still.

The article goes on to explode various of the Obama administration’s claims about the economy, its plans for the country and how it plans to pay for them, saying, among other things, that: “his proposed budget ‘will cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term’ is an eyeball-roller among many economists”.

Cutting to the chase:  The Obama administration and the Democratic Congress don’t plan to pay for any of their ill-advised spending – that’s a future generation’s problem.

Good article from an unexpected source – read it.

daveinboca Hmm... The AP has been one of the most devoted members of Obama's personal choir and appears to be suddenly developing journalistic instincts. Who knows where a suddenly professionalized news service could go in its quest for real accountability? Perhaps even to Barney Frank's blocking GWB's efforts to restrain mortgage lending to unqualified recipients? That's ancient history, of course, and the horse is out of the barn, but can it be led back to its stall [choir metaphor cont'd]?

Doomed If the MSM does not call out Obama and the democrats on this then we have no hope. Because most of the guys on the street do not live in blog land and do not eat, drink and think politics. They get up, go to work and could care less about politics. THE MSM without an agenda is something we desperately need back in America. You can still call out Obama without beating him up when he gets in the alley. The MSM seems hell bent to repeat the mistakes they made with Bush/Cheney and 911 and Iraq. Only this time its to rubber stamp a country busting deficit spending spree that is more dangerous then invading Iraq.
  4. Michael Merritt I started off thinking this was a slightly conservatively biased article (despite popular belief, it does exist there). After read the article, it seems pretty even handed.

Orson Buggeigh Well, well. Someone at AP decided to do some actual journalism instead of serving as a public relations bureau for the Obama campaign. Too bad they waited until there was no danger of the public actually learning anything useful about his economic program. The media will have to do a lot better than this to regain its credibility.
