Eric Calderwood wrote quite an interesting column for the Boston Globe about Al Jazeera’s coverage of the war in Gaza. As someone who watches the Kuwait-based news channel as well, I found his take on their reporting quite fascinating.

First, Calderwood freely admits that Al Jazeera is highly biased. Its coverage of the war is clearly sympathetic towards Palestinians. All suffering of Israelis is ignored. If one watches Al Jazeera one gets the impression that Israel had no other reason to attack Gaza than imperialism.MORE

Go here to read my latest post for Big Hollywood, the blog founded by Andrew Breitbart who also helped set up the Huffington Post and who was partially responsible for the Drudge Report‘s success.

My post is about “Kung Fu Panda,” an incredibly funny animation film I watched after a friend recommended it to me.MORE

In an interview with Fox News Sunday, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D. California) said she is open to press forth on some persecutions of top Bush administration officials.

“I think you look at each item and see what is a violation of the law and do we even have a right to ignore it,” she told Fox’s Chris Wallace. “And other things that are maybe time that is spent better looking to the future rather than to the past.”

Even though she hasn’t been sworn in yet, Hillary Clinton is already at odds with the Afghan foreign ministry. The reason: Clinton referred to Afghanistan as a “narco-state” during a recent confirmation hearing. Afghanistan’s foreign minister was insulted by the term, saying that it is “absolutely wrong” to classify Afghanistan as such.

“Madame Clinton is a good friend of Afghanistan, a close friend of ours,” Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta said.MORE

The New York Post reports that fellow New York-based newspaper the New York Times is seeking a bailout from Mexican telecommunications mogul Carlos Slim.

Being worth $60 billion, Slim is the world’s second richest person. He bought a 6.4% common share stake in NYT co. in September 2008 and is open to invest more in the troubled newspaper.

The newspaper has to raise $400 million before May when its credit line expires.MORE

The Washington Post reported Sunday that Obama’s top donors gave more than $100,000 to his campaign by giving to various entities working to get Obama elected. The report is more evidence that campaign financing laws are not effective in preventing big money from playing a key role in politics.

Although the goal of campaign financing laws can count on general support, the laws themselves cannot. Especially conservatives complain that these laws are in breach with the first amendment guaranteeing the freedom of speech.MORE

Since the beginning of the latest Israel-Hamas conflict began 23 days ago, anti-Israel critics have consistently acted as if Israel alone had the power to stop the fighting any time it wanted to.  United Nations officials have abandoned all pretense of neutrality, condemning Israel for the casualties that inevitably result from Hamas’ widespread use of human shields and allowing use of its facilities in Gaza as launching grounds for Hamas mortars.MORE

Earlier today, President-Elect Barack Obama traveled from Philidelphia to Washington, D.C. by train. He stopped several times along the way to hold a speech and to share his vision for their country with Americans.

The route he took today is the same one President Abraham Lincoln took when he traveled to take the presidency in 1861. Obama chose the Lincoln-route on purpose because Lincoln is the president-elect’s hero.MORE

Two videos brought to you by Big Hollywood. The first features Steven Crowder – a young conservative; the second features Alphonso Rachel, an African American conservative. In other words, both belong to ‘groups’ Republicans will need to court if they want to start winning elections again. Watch both videos; both guys are highly intelligent and very talented – they should enable the Republican Party to connect with young and African American voters, if only they get more coverage.

Israeli government officials told CNN that the cabinet led by Ehud Olmert plans to announce a unilateral cease-fire Saturday night. The officials added that Israel insists it retains the right to respond violently to rocket attacks.

The report came shortly after Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak joined a growing chorus calling on both sides to accept an immediate cease-fire.MORE
