For the past two years the Democratic Party has been able to make a lot of gains by pointing to the bad behavior of Republicans – Mark Foley, Larry Craig, Ted Stevens.  But Stevens may be the last of the Republicans to self-destruct for a while.  At least until the Republicans get too self assured.  For now, though that looks like the problem facing the Dems.MORE

While campaigning for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee, former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele has admonished party conservatives to driving away moderates.  Steele’s argument is a rather old one in its vague terms — that the party needs to have a “big tent” where different perspectives on various issues can be accommodated by a shared commitment to certain core issues.  But this approach begs the question to many conservatives — what are those core issues to be? In a stunning blow to Democratic Party claims to represent a reversal of years of Republican corruption, Illinois Governor Blagojevich has been arrested this morning.  Charges include attempts by the Governor to trade an appointment to President-Elect Obama’s Senate seat for Blagojevich’s own appointment in the Obama administration or an appointment to a lucrative union position.MORE

Too bad it takes his assistant Patrick Appel to point it out:

While signing off, Andrew mentioned the months long argument he and I have had with regard to Sarah Palin’s fifth child. I am the only other person who has read all the obstetrician interviews, the interview with a reporter at the scene, and all the primary sources. I strongly believe that there is nothing to this story.

Also, on Sullivan’s harping on the birth not being reported in the hospital records:

This is highly misleading.MORE

Admittedly, I haven’t been paying attention to much going on outside the borders of the U.S. recently (except the terrorist attacks in Mumbai), so I didn’t know this was going on.  Still, much has happened in Canada in the last week or so.MORE
