When I first read about Hyperion Power Generation‘s plans to manufacture ~25 MWe, turn-key nuclear power plants I was skeptical, to say the least.  Still am, truthfully.  Now the Guardian says that Hyperion has several confirmed orders for the device.  Could this be a real Middle East Oil Killer?

In the days leading up to the elections in the U.S. media, both old and new, breathlessly reported that many more Americans would use their right to vote this time than four years ago. It would be a historical election, not only because a black man could be elected president, but because turnout would be at a record level.

On election day itself, one could see long lines of citizens waiting until they could finally vote. Some waited as long as two hours.

CNN traveled throughout the nation, in search of long waiting lines.MORE

Nancy Pelosi says that voters must not have understood what they were voting for in regard to Proposition 8.  The San Franciso Chronicle reports that the Democratic Speaker of the House recently displayed an almost John Murtha-like condescension toward California voters after they voted to ban gay marriages in the state.  What does this mean, if anything, for hopes of a moderate Obama presidency?

Jules Crittenden reports that federal agents are investigating whether CBS correspondent Lara Logan smuggled mementoes to the U.S.

Agents found out that Logan had items in her possession which belong back in Iraq, after a video profile on the beautiful reporter was aired called “Lara Logan’s Spoils of War.”

In the video, Logan shows off mementoes from Iraq and Afghanistan which she keeps in her Washington office. She explained she found the pieces in the ruins of the Olympic committee building after it was bombed by American forces. (more…)

In an open letter published Saturday, prominent Iranian economists slammed President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for destroying his country’s economy.

The letter, signed by 60 Iranian economists, argues that Ahmadinejad’s angry and extreme rhetoric, resulting in sanctions against Iran and isolation, has cost the country dearly.

In it, the economists denounce “heavy price paid by the country over the negative consequences of government policy.” (more…)

In one of the wittiest columns written by a conservative on the state of the Republican Party, P.J. O’Rourke argues for The Weekly Standard that conservatives’ main mistake in the last couple of years, nay decades even, was that they did not implement conservative policies and forgot what true conservatism is all about.

Instead of realizing that tax cuts are a tool or a result of conservative principles, ‘tax cuts’ became a goal. Cutting taxes was good, always, the argument seemed to go. (more…)

America’s unions are more than happy with Barack Obama’s victory in the presidential election earlier this month. They supported him en masse, trying to ‘get out the vote’ and encouraging members to donate to Obama’s campaign.

Now, they want something in return.

They believe that Obama will make it easier for them to unionize workers, for instance, and – they hope, Obama will help them expand their influence and power. (more…)
