An aide to terrorist Osama Bin Laden was found guilty by a U.S. military tribunal on Monday of 35 counts of conspiracy, solicitation to commit murder and providing material support to terrorism.

Ali Hamza al-Bahlul was a key propagandist for Bin Laden, and an intregal part of the Saudi’s terrorism network.

Al-Bahlul himself was born in Yemen.

Immediately after his conviction al-Bahlul said he and his fellow extremists would “continue to fight” the U.S. government and, finally, admitted being a member of Al Qaeda.

“We will fight any government that governs America,” he told the military tribunal. “We are the only ones on Earth who stand against you.”

He went on to say that the U.S. had itself to blame for the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.

“Whoever said [the attacks] happened out of nowhere is an idiot,” he said. “You have started the war against us.”

Al-Bahlul refused to admit he was a criminal, however, saying that there was nothing wrong with being Bin Laden’s “media chief.” He refused to submit to the court, arguing that it had no right to judge him and calling the trial itself a “farce.”

His lawyer remained silent during the entire trial, refusing to answer questions asked by the judges.

The chief of propaganda is the second member of Al Qaeda to be sentenced by the military tribunal. Earlier it sentenced Osama Bin Laden’s former drive to 5.5 years in jail.

Al-Bahlul could serve the rest of his life in jail.

Most important about this conviction is that the tribunal continues to act; it has taken the United States government years to finally bring these suspects to court. Finally we see these terrorists being put away in a legal fashion, which should improve America’s image considerably.
