After weeks of talking about the economy only, Senator John McCain shifted attention back on Sunday to the subject he wanted to talk about all throughout this year’s campaign: foreign policy.
Speaking in Florida, however, McCain made sure to mention the economy as well. Increasingly more polls show that McCain’s criticism of Obama – as a liberal big spender who wants to ‘spread the wealth around’ – is effective and influences undecided voters.
“Behind the fancy speeches, grand promises and TV special lies the truth — with crises at home and abroad, Barack Obama lacks the experience America needs,” an ad released Wednesday said.
And campaigning in Florida McCain himself said: “Senator Obama is running to spread the wealth. I’m running to create more wealth. Senator Obama is running to punish the successful. I’m running to make everyone successful.”
McCain also touched on the subject of the refusal of the Los Angeles Times to release a videotape it has in its possession on which Barack Obama can be seen attending a conference with anti-Semitic and pro-Hamas and PLO individuals. “Now why that should not be made pubic is beyond me. I guarantee you, if there was a tape with me and Sarah Palin and some neo-Nazi or one of those, you think that that tape wouldn’t be made public?” McCain said in a radio interview.
Although McCain should certainly put foreign policy back on the agenda, he should not forget to speak about the economy as often as possible. This is the number one issue voters care about, if he wants to win, he’ll have to convince them that Obama’s plans for the economy are no good, but that he, McCain, offers them effective solutions.
