Increasingly more countries are recognizing Kosovo’s independence. Shortly after Macedonia did, the United Arab Emirates became the first Arab country to do so. Other Arab countries are expected to do the same in the coming weeks and months.

“The UAE declares its recognition of Kosovo as an independent sovereign state,” the official WAM news agency said.

The move is in line with the UAE’s “support for peoples’ legitimate right to self-determination,” WAM said.

At this moment, Kosovo’s independence has been recognized by more than 50 countries. Kosovo declared its independence February 17 of this year.

Compare that to the situation with South Ossetia and Abkhazia, the two Georgian breakaway regions, and it is becoming pretty clear that Kosovo does, but the other two do not, have any chance of being accepted and recognized by the international community as independent states, with rights like all others.
