Chila will launch its third manned space flight in late September of 2008, a Chinese official told reporters.

Shenzhou VII is now expected to be launched somewhere between September 17 and October 1; marking the end of the Paralymics in Beijing and China’s National Day. (more…)

When asked about her specific views on family issues in a questionnaire, Governor Sarah Palin made clear she opposes sex-ed programs that distribute contraceptives in schools.

Her answer to the question “will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?” is potentially controversial to progressives and to some moderate, independent voters, while it will be celebrated by social conservatives. Earlier this year I found myself in a somewhat confusion circumstance; after studying the Koran and reading about the lives and views of the Sufi mystics I believed the first to be the word of God, much like the Bible, whereas the second provided me with all the spiritual food I needed. I was inspired and happy, but confused.

After all, if you are a Christian, can you consider the Koran to be the word of God, Sufi mystics to be inspiring religious men, and Mohammed to be the messenger of God? (more…)

U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, second in line for the presidency, has become the highest ranking U.S. official to visit the memorial site of the world’s first atomic bomb attack at Hiroshima, Japan.

Pelosi is in Japan for a meeting of the world’s largest industrialized countries, the G-8. During the trip the eight representatives all went to Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park to pay their respects to the civilians killed during World War II by the first atomic bomb. (more…)

Although Michael Merritt already wrote about the latest controversy surrounding Sarah Palin, that she would not have given birth to her son Trig, I think that quite some remains to be said on this subject nonetheless.

Jazz Shaw of The Moderate Voice published a photo that, in his opinion and that of many left of center bloggers who support Obama with a passion seldom seen before, ‘proves’ that Sarah Palin was not visibly pregnant shortly before she allegedly gave birth to Trig. (more…)

National Journal Online has been asking leading bloggers questions about the elections for a couple of days now. The NJO normally asks two or three questions each day, sometimes only one, which are send to various bloggers, after which they publish the results of the poll on their website.

The latest batch of questions was published earlier Monday. The question: “What portion – if any – of the Republican convention program should be devoted to tearing down Barack Obama and the Democratic brand.” (more…)

Jazz Shaw over at TMV, who got some flack (to put it generously) for posting a photo that questioned the story behind Trig Palin’s birth, pretty much rescinded today after some new photos came out.

However, not everybody is satisfied.

Barack Obama, speaking to reporters today, strongly emphasized that Sarah Palin’s family is off limits in this election season.

“Let me be as clear as possible,” Obama said. “I think people’s families are off-limits, and people’s children are especially off-limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin’s performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president.”

John McCain also has made a statement regarding the Palin family:MORE

The Shield of Achilles documents some of the outrageous statements made by progressive bloggers and television personalities about Governor Sarah Palin, John McCain’s running mate. The quotes collected by John Rohan are truly shocking and saddening.

What is becoming of the political debate in general and in the blogosphere specifically? (more…)

The Associated Press reported late on Monday that Al Qaeda’s number two, Ayman al-Zawahiri, ‘has been moving between Pakistan’s tribal areas and mountainous eastern Afghanistan.’
