Yemen U.S. Embassy Attack Leaves 16 Dead
A terrorist attack on the U.S. embassy in Yemen left 16 people dead today. Responsibility for the vile attack was instantly claimed by the Islamic Jihad, an extremist Moslem terrorist organization.
The attack consisted out of two car bombs exploding at (more or less) the same time at the gate of the embassy.
Six of the 16 victims were terrorists. The embassy said none of its diplomatic staff were killed. The other ten who died were Yemenese security guards and (four) civilians.
Not only did the terrorists use car bombs, right after the explosions a gunfire erupted. It lasted for approximately 10 minutes.
Islamic Jihad warned it would carry out more attacks in the Gulf, and demanded the release of members held in jail.
The attack once again makes clear that, although Westerners often pretend that they are the main victims of terrorists, the fact of the matter is that most of the victims are Moslems themselves. Only Moslems who do not follow any extremist ideology.
At the same time, since the target of the attack was the U.S. embassy, it should make perfectly clear – once again – that the U.S. should protect its embassies very, very well. It’s still being targeted by extremists, and it will continue to be targeted for years, possibly decades to come; that will only stop when extremism has been destroyed.
All we can do, meanwhile, is to pray for the souls of those who died… and hope that the leaders of this organization will soon lose their freedom or worse (better perhaps).
