The operation rooms two two hospitals in the Netherlands were forced to close down by the government on Wednesday. The Inspection for Health Care advised the Board of Directors of the hospitals to forbid doctors from the hospitals located in Emmeloord and Lelystand, both in the province of Flevoland, to perform surgery.

The reason for the decision was, according to health inspectors, that the hospitals are “irresponsible and unsafe.”

Patients run the risk of being infected in the hospital because the air is not sterile enough.

Both hospitals were in financial trouble for some time. They had trouble attracting patients and the quality of the service given suffered.

Dozens of patients were transferred to other hospitals immediately after the board took over the judgment of the inspection that the Jansenziekenhuis in Emmeloord and the Zuiderzeeziekenhuis in Lelystad had to be partially closed down.
