I’ve been an avid reader of Andrew Sullivan for some time.  Despite the recent downturn in some of his posts, I still think he’s a good blogger.  A conservative mind when conservatism has gone a little wacky in this country.

Sullivan’s prolificacy on his blog sometimes makes it difficult for me to get a full view of what everyone’s saying per day.  Basically, I have to skim and pick out the best stuff.  I have five blogs that I read which are updated several times a day, and with a full time job now, I can’t read them all, you see.  So, I thought it was a little strange when he only made one post today.  He has people to help him when he can’t be around, so his blog never skips a day (not as long as I’ve read it).  Hope everything’s all right.

Since he didn’t it do it today, I’ll help him out: Biden and Palin, where are those medical records?

Ronnie MM, Was wondering the same thing as I am a daily reader. Maybe he is taking some time to reflect after the ridiculousness that Trig is the grandson nonsense he bought into.
  2. Michael Merritt Yea, that's one of the theories.  He made a very complimentary post the other day.  On the other end of the spectrum, people theorize a September surprise is about to come out.  That Sullivan nuanced that post so much as to leave clues. I *yawn* to that one.

ted I, too, read Sullivan every day and was wondering where he is.  But I respectfully disagree with the characterization that he "bought into" that son vs. grandson debate.  He always made three key points about that: 1) There was a lot of weirdness about the birth, from the fact that no one could tell she was pregnant to the 10 hour trip to a particular hospital after her water broke; 2) It would be very easy for Palin to release medical records to put the issue to rest; 3) It is the press's job to ask these questions. Anyway, I was also wondering what happened to him today.  'Tis very strange.  Maybe someone will come up with a ridiculous theory that we can all ask about repeatedly.

Kathleen Hussein in Maine I googled this question and landed here. Andrew never not has someone blogging for him, or at least warns us that blogging will be slow. (Anyone remember when Walter Kirn guest-blogged for him? Once a day and the crowd went wild.) I'm worried about him.

Ronnie Ted, true thanks for the specifics. However, its like the evolution vs. creationism debate. There shouldn't even BE a debate or questions because one side is so complete moronic that to give time to one of the sides would somehow legitimize that point of view. Same with the grandson/son nonsense. Some DailyKos nutrooter strung a timeline and some pics together and the media is somehow supposed to demand answers. Please. She doesn't have to legitimize that argument in any way by releasing medical records to "prove" her own child.

Herring Cove I, too, wonder why there has been no explanation on the site explaining the lack of posting. (traveling? illness? tech problem?). I hope everything is fine. Perhaps it's just a break from the Palin story and increased site traffic/comments,  but wouldn't his assistant post that? I emailed Atlantic to ask, too. For me, Daily Dish is an important news filter, not just an opinion blog. Again, I hope all is well with Andrew.

Tim L Was Sullivan fired? See here: http://www.mikefrancesa.com/wordpress/?p=1050 "Rumors are that TheAtlantic.com is considering giving Sully the boot. Spies at the magazine say they have heard Sullivan was in a meeting today with Atlantic Monthly execs and there is buzz that he might be fired or put on double secret probation. Apparently the magazine has been flooded with emails criticizing Sullivan and his trashy McCain/Palin smears."

John Any avid reader knows that even if The Atlantic fired Andrew, that would be no reason for the blog to end.  The Daily Dish was thriving before The Atlantic brought him on board (just a couple years ago) and it will continue to thrive no matter who's masthead he's under.  I do hope everything is ok.

Dylan I wonder how many folks have googled "Where is Andrew Sullivan?"... And I think it's patently ridiculous to float the notion that he may be let go for covering stories surrounding the GOP VP pick. His blog is about POLITICS... and whether you consider his coverage and discussion of Palin solid reporting (as I do) or smears, it's all still politics. And Andrew is one of the more fair and humble bloggers I know of in terms of posting opposing arguments and admitting when he's wrong. I miss the Dish already... Hope Andrew's okay.

Tim At this time of year Sullivan is living in Provincetown, MA.  It strikes me as extremely unlikely that "spies" would have seen him in a meeting with Atlantic editors in Washington, D.C. yesterday. I'm also curious about the radio silence and hope everything's okay with him.

dog's eye view Thoroughly enjoy Andrew's blog, although do not always agree with him.  But he's a critical thinker and we need more of them, not less.  Very worried and I think this absence without explanation is without precedent.  We usually hear if he has the flu or is working on an extended project...  nothing from his very able assistant either.  Fingers crossed all is well.

KH I was wondering if that 24 hours of the whole Trig maternity thing would endanger his job. Though I must admit, I thought it was a possibility too. Who gets on a plane and flies 8 hours after your water breaks?  Who goes back to work 3 days after giving birth? So when the rumour surfaced it seemed kind of plausible. At any rate, I hope he's up and running soon with or without the Atlantic. He is my go-to guy for politics.

Gherald Marc Ambinder:  "Lots of e-mails asking about Andrew's whereabouts. I checked in with him; he's fine. He's taking a few days off.  Worry not, fans." Confirmed by Atlantic PR.   It's unlike him to do this w/o a word, my guess is he's chilling over the Palin fiasco.

Not Enjoying the Silence I found it odd yesterday that there was not a single Sullivan posting excluding the one picture, and that there was no explanation for Andrew's silence. He always warns of his departures and he always has guest bloggers fill in for him. Neither of this has occurred, and as there has been no mention of a family or medical emergency, I am inclined to think that something has happened with Andrew's relationship with the Atlantic. While exploring the blogosphere looking for our dear Andy, I noticed that his attacks on Palin seem to have garnered tremendous negative response... thus making me wonder if the response has been too great or that a line had been crossed and that his time with the Atlantic might be coming to an end. If, and only IF, what I conjecture is actually true, I imagine that Andrew would now currently be: - hurriedly finding a new home for his blog, - securing the right to link to his past Atlantic.com posts, or be allowed to republish them on his new site, - asking the Atlantic to agree to link to his new site, and post a "Farewell to Atlantic/Come join me in my new home" message. My... that was far more written than I intended.

The Rev My friends and I have also been concerned about Andrew.I think that we should start a pro-Andy campaign to the Atlantic to let them know how much we support his writing and how important we think his voice is.  And how distressed we will be if we feel that the RNC has succeeded in silencing one of its fiercest critics at this crucial time.  Andy would be just another fanatical ranter if he only skewered Republicans but he has been just as fierce in his criticism of Democrats. This is a first amendment issue.  I am an avid Atlantic supporter, but if they fire him, I will no longer visit their site or read their magazine. If anyone else thinks this is a good idea, to whom should we forward our emails of support??

Kate C. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the Wittgenstein quote betokens something going on behind the scenes. I thought Andrew was a bit off base with the Palin/grandson thing but now I'm concerned the Right has managed to silence another voice critical of their BS. An day soaking up sunshine? If so, why the cryptic?

bernadette b. This is getting alarming-- especially the cryptic quote.  I'd hate to think that The Atlantic would fire Andrew, but I'd hate even more to think that this might be a health crisis. Hoping for a simple and speedy explanation for this worrisome silence.....

Not Enjoying the Silence Andy is likely not leaving nor getting fired if he was (somewhat) free to post a rather telling quote (albeit a quote in German). For many reasons, I could see how this newly imposed prohibition to speak his mind (is this solely a Palin-ban?) would be a troublesome if not vexing burden.

roy The Desperate Housewives clip is telling.  AS would never post that banal clip from that banal show unless it had a deeper meaning.  And that deeper meaning couldn't be clearer.   The character Bree, the scolding mother at the center of the bit, in a separate sequence on the show, pretended to be pregnant so that when her teenage daughter gave birth out of wedlock, Bree could claim the child as her own.  In the clip, Bree scolds a boy named Andrew.  AS must have gotten some serious blow back.

He is sanity incarnate, a voice of superior clarity and, even though I am an atheist, he's the first devout Christian I've heard in y-e-a-r-s actually move me in a spiritual way. His book, "The Conservative Soul" is a masterpiece of extraordinary good sense. I'm a better man because of Andrew. God bless the day he decided to become an American citizen. He is indispensable.
