True, I tend to prefer the Obama-Biden ticket, but I identify with the feelings expressed in this cartoon by Tom Janssen about the exaggerated (mostly positive, uncritical) attention of Dutch ( and other (foreign) ) media for Mr Obama. In elegant speeches that competed only to upstage each other in their enthusiasm for endorsing Barack Obama, Hillary and Bill Clinton have struck a blow against those (including yours truly) who have condemned them as hopeless narcissists incapable of transcending their megalomania and hubris.MORE

Agents of Hizbullah and Iran’s Revolutionary Guard have deployed special forces in Venezuela intended to kidnap Jewish businessmen and smuggle them to Lebanon, Israel Radio reported Thursday. An expert on counter-terrorism warned in an interview with The Los Angeles Times that Iranian-backed agents have managed to recruit collaborators among Venezuelan citizens living in the capital Caracas.MORE

In what can be considered a sign that the power of the Internet continues to increase and that journalists, reporters and newspaper and television managers know it, Jay Mariotti decided to abruptly resign from the Chicago Sun-Times because, he believes, newspapers are dying.

Newspapers cannot compete with the web, Mariotti believes, and – if he wants to become more successful – it is time for him to take his business to it.  (more…)
