How this can surprise anyone, is beyond comprehension. Of course Israel’s enemies are celebrating; the Israelis released many terrorists, and in return got the bodies back of Israeli soldiers who had been killed by other terrorists. That’s not a victory for Hezbollah, Iran, Hamas, etc., and a major defeat for the Jewish nation-state. (more…)

Below follows the transcript of the speech Senator John McCain delivered before the NAACP. As usual, I will not comment on the speech myself. I simply want to give you the opportunity to read it, think about it, and comment on it yourself without my interference if you are so inclined. (more…)

‘When an eight-year-old Guy Earle was bouncing on his bed, reciting along to Steve Martin albums and dreaming of being a famous stand-up comic, he never imagined how that fame would finally arrive: in the form of a Canadian Human Rights Commission (HRC) complaint, brought by a lesbian heckler, accusing Earle of not being funny,’ Kathy Shaidle writes. ‘Barack Obama has found a great new way to help voters imagine him as an occupant of the office he doesn’t have yet. He’s dropped the widely mocked faux presidential seal, but when he heads overseas Sunday, he’ll take an accessory with real power: three television network anchors,’ John Dickerson writes for Slate. Yet another set of articles in a major newspaper / magazine / etc. implies that the war against the West isn’t going well for Al Qaeda or at least not as well as Osama Bin Laden and his henchmen hoped 7 years ago, when they attacked the World Trade Center in New York City. We, the West, are winning while they, Al Qaeda extremists, are making increasingly more enemies. Additionally, Al Qaeda has been weakened by the war on terrorism and by its own actions. (more…)

The Kingdom of Belgium, the southern neighbor of my country the Netherlands, is in big trouble; they were not able to form a unity government for months because the Dutch speaking part and the French speaking part could not agree with each other on their respective role and influence on the state and country.MORE

Although I agree with Al Gore that something has to be done about climate change, and that there are many things the US and the West as a whole can do about this problem, I’ve got to say that the man’s arrogance and obvious left-wing bias make it difficult for me to publicly support anything he suggests. Mort Kondracke explains quite well what the consequences are of the need many politicians feel to pander to the base (of their party). When one talks about John McCain and Barack Obama, for instance, Kondracke comes to the conclusion that McCain errs on the economy because of this need, while Obama errs on Iraq. (more…)

I come home from work today and checked my mail and noticed that I got a mail from John McCain and the Republican National Committee. This wasn’t unexpected to me. As an Independent, I know Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, et. al would love to get my vote. I was annoyed two years ago when I got endless calls on my cell phone (which was on the Do-Not-Call list at the time) from the RNC urging me to vote Rob Simmons in my House district. I think the Republicans may have gotten that message, and changed strategy.MORE
