For those of you who know people who can’t stop caterwauling about the looming Theocracy in America, please introduce them to what I like to call The First Church of Chavez (via protein wisdom). It’s his church, bankrolled with his stolen oil money and purposed to condemn liberty and capitalism at every turn. Lest you think I’m being hyperbolic, the church’s mission statement makes no bones about why it’s there.

Al Jazeera is often criticized by, especially, American conservatives. They argue that the Middle Eastern network (run by people who were taught how to report the news at the BBC) is too anti-American, and too sympathetic towards extremists and extremist regimes. Although I understand the complaint, I have to admit that I disagree with it, at least to a degree. (more…)

Although I understand that Partisan Republicans are more than willing to use Democratic weaknesses to their own advantage, instead to analyze what’s wrong with the Democrats, and why, I am of the belief that it’s important for people to spend some time talking about how the Party of John F. Once again, individuals call for the destruction of nuclear weapons. Although I can’t possibly say I agree with everything Joseph Romm writes in his article “Anti-science conservatives must be stopped,” I do agree with the main point that American conservatives are willfully blind when it comes to the issue of global warming. And I also agree that they have to change their attitude towards this problem. ASAP. (more…)

Although Barack Obama often brags that his fundraising success is made possible by small donors, who never donated money to a political campaign before, the truth is more nuanced: only 45% of received donations were $200 or less. 55% of the donations were more than that. In other words; it are not (just) small donors who are behind Obama’s financial success. (more…)

General Wesley Clark has received a lot of flack today for what he said about John McCain’s military experience yesterday during an interview with Bob Schieffer. Andrew Sullivan is disgusted, as is Barack Obama, who made a point about it during his patriotism speech today. Yet, what’s really bad about what Clark said is not what he said, but how he said it.

And no, they weren’t even sarcastic: ‘Robert Mugabe was hailed a “hero” by Africa’s longest-serving head of state as he joined his fellow leaders at an African Union summit.’ (more…)
