Joseph Lieberman next year will be kicked out of the party’s caucus and lose his Senate chairmanship if he addresses the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., as planned.’ (more…)

The New York Times published a fascinating article about John McCain’s kind of conservatism. He is, of course, more of a moderate than an ideological American conservative, but his moderation hangs more towards conservatism than liberalism, or even centrism. Via Jazz Shaw over at TMV, what Carly Fiorina said on Meet the Press about the subject of Phil Gramm’s recent statements about the behavior of Americans. Or American leaders; take your pick. (Quote may be slightly paraphrased):

Senator John McCain’s campaign has, it seems, finally learned how to use their website as effectively as possible. Where a lot of us complained only a few weeks ago that they did not clearly describe his policy plans on it, and that it was quite difficult – especially compared to Senator Barack Obama’s website – to find important information at it, that has now changed. ‘We’re nearing that delicate point in the cycle when even the usual cheerleaders have hung up their pompoms, consumer and business confidence has disappeared and investors are driven mostly by fear rather than greed. What started out as a credit crisis and then morphed into a broader financial crisis has finally worked its way into the real economy.| MORE

‘Barack Obama probably did his cause more harm than he realized earlier this month when he vowed, in a pair of well-orchestrated speeches, to make religion — specifically a “partnership” between government and churches — into a “moral centerpiece” of his administration,’ Forward opines. (more…)
