Approximately one hour ago, the first match of this year’s European Championships Football finished; the host country, Switzerland, lost to the Czech Republic. The Czechs beat the Swiss by 1 goal; 0-1. The scorer of the one and only goal is Vaclav Sverkos.

Although Switzerland is considered a “weak football country,” and the Czech Republic quite a strong one, the two teams were each other’s equal in this match. That is probably due to the fact that Switzerland played at home, in Basil, Switzerland, but it also has something to do with the age of their opponent’s best players. The Czechs were one of the strongest teams in Europe only a few years ago. Nowadays, however, the players that were Europe’s best once have gotten old… and no young players are able to replace them.

Switzerland played passionately, and definitely deserved a draw.
