FactCheck.org speaks: Obama’s mailer is “misleading.” Earlier FactCheck described a different Obama mailer, criticizing Clinton on health care, as “straining the facts, though not exactly false.” With regards to NAFTA: it’s amazing to see how American politicians try to say what the American people want to hear (opposed to NAFTA). NAFTA was, in fact, a good thing, and still is. Globalization isn’t bad, it’s good. Repeat after me. Globalization isn’t bad, it’s good.MORE

One of the main reasons that I was hesitant to speak out positively about Kosovo’s independence is that I was afraid that many other separatist movements would follow Kosovo’s example and be encouraged by it. It seems that I’m far from the only one who fears this and it seems that I may have been right: (more…)

“With just 2,000 American soldiers to patrol a city of 1.8 million people — the Iraqi Sunni insurgency’s most formidable urban stronghold — the U.S. military strategy in Mosul relies to an unprecedented degree on the Iraqi security forces,” the Washington Post reports. (more…)

The Dutch news network the NOS reports that the PKK has called on Turkish Kurds to fight against the Turkish government. The message was aimed at Kurds living in Turkish cities (they form a solid majority in some Eastern Turkish cities). I’ve got to admit that, although I disagree with Ralph Nader on virtually every issue, I respect the man. He believes very strongly in certain things, and he’s willing to do whatever is necessary to ‘fix’ his country (in his own eyes at least). Aside from that he greatly respects the American people and he has served them throughout his life. Did you, for instance, know that we’ve got seat belts in our cars because of Nader? Without him, thousands more would have died in car accidents. (more…)

Aides to Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf have told The Sunday Telegraph that he’s considering “stepping down as president of Pakistan rather than waiting to be forced out by his victorious opponents.” He reportedly told aides that he sees no use in carrying on now that the three winners of the elections have decided to form a coalition government “and also pledged to reinstate the country’s chief justice and 60 other judges sacked by Mr Musharraf in November.” (more…)

Barack Obama declares that Hillary Clinton of all people receives special treatment (from the media and democrats) and that, if he were in her shoes, he would have been forced to step out. That’s, as Ed Morrissey writes, nonsense. If anyone has received special treatment it’s Obama and, more importantly, he may have won 10 states straight, but Clinton isn’t far behind delegate wise. As of yet it’s still very much a race. (more…)

Turkey’s President Abdullah Gül has approved the constitutional amendment package that, among other things, makes it legal for female student to wear a headscarf in universities and high schools. It is a controversial, yet unsurprising, move. Turkey’s strict secularists strongly oppose the amendment and have protested against it for weeks. (more…)
