In the NY Times, Julia Preston writes that the immigration problem is defying politicians’ attempts to answer it easily.

Coinciding with the mood of apprehension following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the new immigration has provoked more than the traditional suspicion that foreigners are taking jobs from American workers. For many voters in the primary races, immigration has become an urgent national security concern and a challenge to the American identity.

Lee Harris at TCSDaily examines the old slander that conservatives are from the “stupid party”. What he finds is something that I have been saying about conservatives for a long time: What fundamentally distinguishes conservatives from liberals is not, as some liberals would maliciously suggest, intelligence or sanity or morality, but rather simply a different attitude towards risk. John Deady, the co-chair of New Hampshire Veterans for Rudy Giuliani, has been forced to resign from his position after (progressive) journalists and bloggers confronted Giuliani with Deady’s remarks about Muslims. For those who have slight memory problems: Deady told reporters (caught on camera) that the former mayor of New York has “the knowledge and judgment to attack one of the most difficult problems in current history. And that is the rise of the Muslims. And make no mistake about it, this hasn’t happened for a thousand years.MORE

A (short) documentary about Nazis in Russia. Watch it. It’s very, very disturbing. Nazism and racist violence is tremendously on the rise in Russia. It’s one of those developments that Putin allowed to happen. Some say he silently encourages it, others say that he simply doesn’t do against them what he could (and should) do.

The leader of Russia’s Nationalist Socialist Party is interviewed in the video.MORE

Buck Naked Politics rightfully crowns my good friend Jon Swift King of the (satirical) blogosphere.

And a big thank you to BNP’s Damozel for the compliment (head on over to BNP to find out what I’m talking about).

With only one week to go before the primaries of Iowa and New Hampshire, former Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney has stepped up his attacks against his main rivals in both states: Mike Huckabee and John McCain.

The campaign has made and aired two ads that compare Romney to Huckabee and in the other one to McCain, both indicating that his two main competitors aren’t the best for conservative voters.

The Washington Post explains: (more…)

A couple of days ago I read this column by John Derbyshire for National Review Online, which he wrote little over a week ago. In it, the conservative columnist endorses Ron Paul, arguing that the time has come for Libertarianism to be implemented.

One of the main reasons that Derbyshire endorses Paul is that the government has become increasingly bigger, with even the Vice President having a gigantic staff.MORE

Thanks!

Why am I thanking them? Philips is a Dutch company.

Friend’s Note
Thanks to airline’s tardinesses, it is almost impossible to book flights online, and as a result one misses important flight deals like the once in a year las vegas flights as well as the occasional new york flights.
