A video was released early today showing Alan Johnston, the BBC reporter kidnapped in Gaza, providing the first proof of life since his abduction almost three months ago.
While the date of recording is unclear, the footage comes as a huge relief to friends and colleagues who in April were told Mr Johnston had been executed.| MORE

Doctor Jack Kevorkian, also known as “Dr. Death” has been released from prison.
Jack Kevorkian, the retired pathologist dubbed “Dr. Death” for claims that he participated in at least 130 assisted suicides, left prison after eight years Friday still believing people have the right to die.
A smiling Kevorkian, now 79, said it was “one of the high points in life” as he walked out with his attorney.| MORE

Bad news for Rudy Giuliani: his presidential bid “has provoked a groundswell of opposition from disparate forces including conservative Catholics, remnants of Pat Buchanan’s presidential campaigns and regional political operatives seeking to break into the Republican firmament.”

The New York Times reports:
Former Senator John Edwards, a Democratic presidential candidate, told an interviewer on Wednesday that he had read the classified October 2002 National Intelligence Estimate before voting to authorize force in Iraq, but his campaign retracted the statement yesterday.
A spokesman for Mr. Edwards said the candidate had “simply misunderstood the question” and noted that Mr. Edwards had read only a declassified version of the intelligence report.| MORE
